MALAYSIA: MANZI HAS THE LEAD GROUP PACE, AEGERTER TO HALF A SECOND
Improved qualifying compared to previous sessions. After an uphill start, the MV Agusta Temporary Forward Racing team managed to improve until it entered Q2, breaking down the wall of 2’06 with Stefano Manzi.
After the FP3 session, the team worked further on the setting and Manzi managed to find the right feeling in Q1 with his MV Agusta F2. With a best time of 2’05.956, the Italian rider not only gained the second position in the session, but also managed to access the Q2s. In this session the weather started to get worse, leaving a doubt of rain until the last few minutes. Stefano will start tomorrow from 13th position on the starting grid.
Dominique Aegerter, on the other side of the box, also led a morning uphill session, but managed to improve in Q1 and ended the session half a second behind his teammate. The Swiss rider will start tomorrow from the eighth row of the Malaysian Grand Prix line-up.
The appointments are as follows: 10:10 local time (2:10 in Italy) with the warm-up and 13:20 local time (6:20 in Italy) with the long-awaited switch off of the red lights.
Stefano Manzi #62 – P13 2’06.070
“I can say that I am satisfied today because we have turned a day and a weekend a bit ‘negative. In Q1 I did pretty well and I was fast even though I slipped at the end. In Q2 we were able to play with a difficult track condition because it was raining a bit. I wasn’t able to do my best, but now we will analyze the data to express the full potential of the bike tomorrow. I want to thank the team for their work”.
Dominique Aegerter #77 – P24 2’06.510
“This Saturday of Fp3 and qualifying has allowed us to improve our time despite the others have also gone faster. We have reduced the gap from the leading group, our goal was to enter Q2 but we did not succeed. Tomorrow we will start from 24th position, which is not optimal to fight for points. It will be a long and hot race, I hope we can improve lap by lap, hopefully stay dry. We have good expectations and we are ready for tomorrow”.

“Today took a different turn in the afternoon than at the beginning of this morning. In FP3 both riders were unable to express their potential; Stefano couldn’t get directly into Q2 and needed time to get back into the feeling with the bike after yesterday’s crash. In Q1 he recorded a good time: 8 tenths faster than this morning; his time was much lower than the other riders and this is certainly very significant, especially considering that the pole of the qualifying session was half a second slower than in the last free practice session. Despite a slip, Stefano passed to Q2, where the track conditions were not at the best, there were drops and threatened to rain at any time. It qualified 13th and this is an excellent result that shows once again that the project is going in the right direction. At his side, Dominque encountered some more difficulties: he still complains about the lack of grip on the rear and the difficulty in entering the corners. We will analyze the data of both to offer him some changes for tomorrow. His race will start from the eighth row and we are sure he and Stefano will do their best”.
