Corsi injured and Marcon found positive for SARS COVID-19, but without symptoms. At Portimao, riding the MV Agusta F2 will be Miquel Pons.
Following a crash during the first round of the season, which saw Simone Corsi suffer a left wrist injury, his designated replacement, Tommaso Marcon, took part in the second race held in Qatar. The opportunity was taken by the young rider from Veneto as a good training ahead of his first race as a wild card at Jerez with the MV Agusta Forward Racing team. Unfortunately, however, upon his return to Italy, Marcon has been found positive to PCR, fortunately without having developed any serious symptoms other than a mild bout of flu.
The MV Agusta Forward Racing team was therefore forced to find another replacement rider for the third challenge of 2021, finding this figure in the young Miquel Pons: born on 1st August 1997 in Palma de Mallorca, Miquel started his career on two wheels at the age of 6 in the Balearic motocross championship. The rider was a four-time runner-up in Supersport in ESBK, where he competed from 2016 to 2019, as well as taking part in some races in CEV Moto2 and WorldSSP. Pons has been involved in the MotoE World Championship with the LCR team since this year.
The entire MV Agusta Forward Racing team wishes Tommaso a speedy recovery and wishes Miquel the best of luck for his first experience in the Moto2 World Championship riding the MV Agusta F2.
